A special film and music event chosen by our friends at The Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema. From the great Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu (Tokyo Story) comes a beautiful and funny tale of 2 mischievous brothers on a mission to overthrow the local bully. Using the universal language of silent cinema Ozu has created an entertaining film with a hint of Chaplin-style social commentary. I was Born, But… was made in 1932 at a time when Japan’s studio system was making an impressive 500 films a year – one of the few countries able to compete with Hollywood. In silent cinema tradition the film will be presented with a live piano accompaniment by Forrester Pyke.
