For the first time, the Borders’ Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival (April 3-6) will host a preview event in Edinburgh. Those attending the event will be the first to see clips from the identical twin Quay Brothers’ surreal puppet animation, Unmistaken Hands, one of the festival’s most anticipated UK premieres, alongside a short preview of Patrick Bokanowski’s new film Un Rêve (A Dream). Alchemy is Scotland’s only festival to focus on experimental film and artists’ moving image. Its diverse, international programme includes feature-length films, experimental shorts, video art and live multi-media performance. 30 filmmakers from around the world have confirmed their attendance, and of the 100 films to be screened over the long weekend, 85 are world, European, UK or Scottish premieres.

The city’s film and visual arts fans will be treated to clips of highlight films from the upcoming festival, from 3-6 April, as well as having the chance to try out the hand held projectors that will be used in the festival’s (Wh)ere Land event – an audio-visual sculpture walk, taking place after-dark.
