Mediterraneo: Carnevale!

The Badwills, ICI Edinburgh and Summerhall present Carnevale! The first appointment in the hugely popular Mediterraneo concert series for 2014. This edition sees two great bands with 15 musicians taking the stage performing an epic night of music from Italy and South America.

Carnevale! is a Live Music Masquerade, the night when the world is turned upside down. The time of the year when all go mad, when the Fool is King and the Liar speaks the Truth. It’s a night of masks, of mysterious creatures, of characters from the Commedia dell’Arte, from the canals of Venice to the alleys of Montemarano. And to Rio and Santiago de Chile: this year Carnevale and Mediterraneo cross the Ocean!

Secreto Tropical are one of Edinburgh’s finest Cumbia bands. Performing music rooted in the trees of the Amazon Jungle but heard throughout the Latin American continent, their 7 piece line up comes complete with traditional percussion and guitars, sax and vintage synths, all promising non stop dancing,.

The Badwills headline the night bringing again to Summerhall their furious mix of tarantella, pizzica and tammurriata. They are an Edinburgh based collective of musicians from Italy and beyond, moving between the alleyways of Napoli and Genoa and the piazze of Sicily and Puglia. Come ready to stomp away the bite of the tarantula!
