Ann Marie Gilmore spent her formative years in Alloway before studying at the Edinburgh College of Art in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. After several nomadic years she returned to her native Canada and devoted herself to painting and drawing. She also taught for a period at Concordia University in Montreal. She died of a brain tumour in 2006. This exhibition of paintings, prints and drawings draws heavily upon the artist’s personal archive which has only recently become available. At the time of the only previous public showing of her work in Scotland, in 2008, her friend and mentor Richard Demarco remarked that her watercolours, for which she is best known, demonstrate “a particular gift of expressing her delight in nature through a joyous use of colour”.
