A wild celebration of European music, with Italian pizzica, Spanish flamenco, Greek rembetiko and furious Eastern European folk music.

Mediterraneo and Nothing Ever Happens Here present the summer edition of Edinburgh’s own wild world music concert series. This time we are partying for Europe – with a special ‘Europe Calling’ concert!

In the shadow of the EU referendum, come join us for a mighty dance-fueled celebration of live music from across the continent… a ceilidh to stay!

Adrenaline-charged Eastern European folk music maestros Moishe’s Bagel headline, with hosts and Edinburgh’s favourite tambourine toting Italian pizzica bandits The Badwills, Greek rembetiko and folk merchants Boozoolia and Spanish roots aficionados Flamenco Eidyn rounding off the night. Come along to celebrate Scotland being, and staying in Europe! For more details about the groups see the links below, and remember to get in early, as Mediterraneo has been selling out Summerhall since 2012!

Line up:

Edinburgh based world folk music masters Moishe’s Bagel play a furious and thrilling mix of eastern European folk, klezmer and jazz. Stunning original compositions meet sublime traditional melodies, backed up by infectious foot-stomping grooves. The virtuoso band (fiddle, accordion, piano, bass and percussion), whose albums and live shows have met critical and audience acclaim at home and internationally, features some of Scotland’s finest musicians.

‘Breathtakingly intricate but played with jubilation’ (Herald).  ‘Emphatically puts the “class” into “unclassifiable” (Scotsman). See more on their facebook or website or watch them in action here

Firing up your dancing feet will be Mediterraneo’s hosts, The Badwills, bringing you the wildest tambourine fueled pizzica, tarantella and tammurriata from the South of Italy. The six piece group will take you right to the heart of the Mediterranean, opening a window on the lights and shadows, glory and madness of the South of Italy. Let the spider bite, let the dancing begin!

“Five stars… not to be missed” Edinburgh Festivals Magazine. You can see more about them on their facebook and website and watch them perform at Mediterraneo here

Opening the night will be two brilliant Scotland-based European groups, Boozoolia and Flamenco Eidyn, taking you on musical journeys across Greece and southern Spain respectively. Boozoolia whirl together beautiful arrangements of smyna, rembetiko, and traditional music from the Greek islands while Flamenco Eidyn bring the fire, percussion and melodies of Andalusia to the stage to start what promises to be the biggest and best Mediterraneo yet!
