Modern science is founded on physicalism: everything has a knowable, physical cause and predictable outcomes. But what happens when we push these physicalist assumptions to the limits? What space is there in a deterministic universe for choice, free will? How and why does the universe exist at all? How much can we learn from physicalism, and can it offer a complete description of reality? Meet astronomer Tim Hewlett to explore some of the gaps in our knowledge that lie at the edge of physics.

This event accompanies the exhibition “Deep dark pale blue” by Florian Schwarz, open daily 11am – 6pm from 25 June to 17 July.
