Running in Edinburgh’s city centre from 28th April – 1st May 2016, undependence is an accessible, creative, international film festival.

The creative festival will be put on by local creative organisation Pop Up! Scotland. The festival organisers are a group of enthusiastic volunteers who are self funding the project, which, while non-partisan, was born out of the creative spirit that arose all over Scotland during the autumn of 2014. undependence showcases films exploring ideas of dependency and what it means to be an individual in a dynamic society.

Undependence wants to celebrate, promote and keep alive the un-dependent spirit in the arts and filmmaking by showing Scottish and international moving images that will prompt (e)motions in its audience.

undependence is not a typical film festival: the pop-up nature of the festival makes use of multiple venues so everyone feels welcome, and compliments the film screenings with artistic shows, lectures, and interactive workshops to create a unique experience.”

The ambitious festival will include a interactive animation workshop with Stirling based artist Indie Venture, a Q&A with Taiwanese filmmaker Hsin-Wei Chin at Summerhall, who will be visiting Edinburgh for the Scottish premier of her film Pan Zhog.

Also as part of the festival, the MMBF (Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund) trust will be sponsoring the Rising Star Award. MMBF is an international fund set up to support young people with an interest to follow a career in the film industry or aspiring pilots.
