Courtyard Commission Project Open Call

For the second year running we are delighted to announce the Summerhall Courtyard Commission Project and offer one artist the opportunity to create a site specific work to be launched for Fringe 2023 and exhibited on a permanent basis. In light of current events and with cautious optimism for the future we ask artists to submit proposals for artworks that reflect on the theme of ‘Hope’; Hope that art and culture will prevail, serve as a sanctuary, bring us together and make us resilient.

The successful artist or collective of artists will receive a commission fee of £2000 which should include materials and artistic fee.

  • The dimensions of the installation site are roughly 8.4m x 3m although the height of the installation may vary.
  • Summerhall will arrange installation of the work at a cost independent to the commission fee.
  • The materials used should be reasonably durable and weather resistant to ensure longevity.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

From street art to print making, graphic design to sculpture, we are open to proposals form artists working in all media that would translate into a site-specific installation. Your proposal should outline the approach you would take and examples of the materials to be used. You should own the intellectual property of the work.
