Job Title: Maintenance Officer

Salary: Based on experience, £24 – 26K

Contract Type:  Permanent, Full Time, 40hrs per week

Summerhall is a vibrant arts and entertainment hub in the center of Edinburgh, located in the old Royal Dick School of Veterinary Studies by the Meadows. Summerhall runs a full time events schedule including weddings and conferences, as well as housing a year round music programme, bar, café and 120 commercial tenants all of which are in the arts or creative industries. An opportunity has become available to join Summerhall’s multidisciplinary maintenance team.

What is the Job?

We are looking for hard-working individuals with maintenance experience who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing workloads by prioritising accordingly without compromise to our high standards. An ideal candidate would have the ability to work alone whilst also contributing positively to the wider team.

What will you be doing?

Tasks and responsibilities  for this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Simple plastering
  • Fitting doors and associated ironmongery and changing door locks
  • Painting and decorating
  • Emergency and basic plumbing duties
  • Repair and replacement of faulty lighting units and basic electrical knowledge
  • Assisting with rubbish removal, moving furniture and equipment around the building
  • Responding to emergency maintenance requests as required
  • External maintenance and caretaking, such as car park areas, fences, gutters, yard care
  • Roof clearances and minor roof repairs
  • Building stages and events set ups
  • Assisting with Fringe festival builds

What are the required skills?

  • Basic carpentry
  • Simple plastering
  • Basic plumbing
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Full clean driver’s license
  • 3 years trade experience

A background of working in an arts venue or theatre would be desirable but is not essential, as would a working knowledge of motor vehicles.
