Each year, since 2012, we hand over the keys to Summerhall to Edinburgh International Science Festival, reuniting the old Dick Vet back to its scientific foundations. They turn our multi-arts venue into their Festival hub, complete with roaming dinosaursvisual arts programme and legendary Festival party night.

This year the Festival runs from 26 March to 10 April and we’ve got a packed programme of events happening within the walls of our historic building.

For families, they’ve got two brand new pieces of theatre that combine the wonder of theatre with the explosive world of science communication. Catherine Wheels Theatre Company present Lost at Sea, a show that journeys into the story of 28,800 bath toys that accidentally ended up in the unrelenting currents of the Pacific Ocean. Borderline Theatre Company explore artificial intelligence with their interactive show for 8-12 year olds, Uncanny Valley, giving the audience the chance to interact with a real ‘live’ robot.

Adults can indulge in the tastier side of science with the delicious GastroFest events. Featuring producers, artisans, scientists and chefs, GastroFest lets you explore everything from chocolate to wineLavish Leftovers to food from the Futurist movement and a day-long farmers’ market with a scientific twist.

For a truly up-close look at human creativity, look no further than the Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire. Back for its fourth year, this incredible event brings together makers from all sorts of unexpected areas to show off their exciting pieces of hardware, software, crafts, gadgets and food. This year they have robotics, augmented reality, roaming Audio Assault Buggy, Tiny Zines, embroidery, circuits and more.

So drop in to Summerhall and leaf through books in Blackwell’s pop-up bookshop, grab a Binary Star by Barney’s Beer, explore the visual art show Bio and Beyond, engage in lively conversations and blast off to a better world with the fantastic selection of Science Festival events happening in our building.
