HOLY ESQUE – SANDRA ALLAND – CLAIRE LAMOND –
BILL RYDER-JONES – POETRY SCOTLAND / K.CADWALLENDER

HOLY ESQUE
was formed in 2011 by four young Glaswegians: vocalist and guitarist Pat Hynes, Keir Reid on Keyboard, Guitarist Hugo McGinley and drummer Ralph McClure. Following the release of their self-titled debut EP, Holy Esque went on to tour across Europe with The Raveonettes, while 2013 then saw the release of the single ‘St’ and appearances at Glastonbury Festival and SXSW. Support shows with Haim & Augustines supported single Silences which was featured on Spotify’s playlist ‘Best Songs of 2014 You Haven’t Heard…Yet’. The band received great support from US radio with Silences landing tenth spot on specialty radio chart and 45th most played track on John Richards KEXP show. Early 2015 sees the boys putting the final touches to a brand new EP due for release over the summer.
“Glasgow’s most exciting and inventive new band” NME
“Their singer’s gravel-throated delivery is extraordinary; a fine new Glasgow group” Sunday Times
“Partly epic, partly industrial, and wholly inspiring” Clash
“Thrilling to the ears” DIY

SANDRA ALLAND
is a writer, filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist based in Edinburgh. Her most recent poetry collection, Naturally Speaking, won Canada’s 2013 bpNichol Award. Sandra is currently co-editing a forthcoming anthology of UK disability poetics (Nine Arches Press). See: http://www.blissfultimes.ca/abouttheartist.htm
“The place is rammed…and the show does not disappoint. Reminiscent of Miranda July and complemented by a deadpan delivery, Alland’s words are at once both drolly funny and sweetly strange.”
– Lock Up Your Daughters Magazine, Glasgow

CLAIRE LAMOND
is a BAFTA nominated animator based in Edinburgh who’s films have screened at major festivals all over the world. At this event she brings us ‘Sea Front’ – which features music by Karine Palwart. http://www.clairelamond.com/

BILL RYDER-JONES
Bill moved seemlessly into songwriting and production after his departure from the Coral as their guitarist. His talents don’t rest there, his discography includes writing and performing the soundtracks and film scores to releasing his own material as an artist himself. He has also toured with the Arctic Monkeys and collaborated with the Manchester Camerata for the Manchester Literature Festival. B R-J left The Coral after their fifth studio album Roots & Echoes, on which his arrangements hinted at a deeper and spectacular compositional talent. Ryder-Jones explored this side of his creative talent in full with the orchestral album If… for Domino sister label Double Six – which was a grand ‘imaginary soundtrack’ to Italo Calvino’s post modernist novel If On A Winters Night A Traveller. Ryder-Jones then completed his second album A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart, which marries his masterful capacities as arranger and composer with his first firm steps as a singer songwriter. He’s currently working on his third album. As a producer B R-J’s been working with Saint Saviour, The Wytches, By the Sea, Hooton Tennis Club, MiNNETONKA and many more talents. Hoylake massive.

A mighty poet and deft editor (occasional singer), KEVIN CADWALLENDER brings us a special poem from within the belly of Poetry Scotland (this month’s featured publication).
