We are very excited to announce the launch of “Stompin’ at the Summerhall” –This new monthly event is keen to create a stronger collaboration between Jazz bands and the Dance community. Nothing beats live music and because swing/traditional jazz styles need to be danced to, we will be hosting the best bands every month for you!

We are keen to bring emerging acts to the scene as well as our local favourites… There will be a different band every month and we have a BIG name from New Orleans playing for us in September but Friday May 3rd sees our AMAZING opening night! We have TWO bands to herald this special night:

The Dixie 6:
T.J is currently in the USA playing with Pokey LaFarge but rest assured, the Dixie 6 are on top form with their high energy arrangements of traditional songs and their own original material- they are sure to get you dancing!
Started in late 2011, ‘T.J Muller and the Dixie-6’ is a coming together of chaps based in Edinburgh to have fun playing New-Orleans Jazz, very much under the influence of early British Jazzmen such as Nat Gonella.
Within their first year of playing they’ve featured at Edinbrugh International Jazz Festival, Barga Jazz Festival in Tuscany as well as recording sessions with BBC Introducing and BBC Cumbria. They have weekly and monthly slots in various venues around the city, and have regulars at both Swung 8 and The Tea Pad Presents in Newcastle.

Vieux Carre:
Vieux Carré have a fondness for early Hot Jazz and the upbeat ‘Tin Pan Alley’ movement… working the ‘not so standard’ tunes of old in with the Great American Songbook – The Vieux Carré repertoire is energetic and lively – with some sassy and seductive numbers thrown into the mix just for fun. With performances and residencies at some of the UK’s top establishments, private functions and upcoming festivals – Vieux Carré love nothing more than getting dancers up to appreciate the old ‘pop’ tunes of yesteryear!
Staying true to the whimsical, evocative and slightly cheeky attitude of the late 1920s, Vieux Carré offer up a hearty and delicious good cheer performance – the perfect medicine to invite a smile in these uncertain times.

In addition to the these amazing bands we will have a DJ playing all your favorite Swing dance and Blues tracks and a ‘pop up shop’ from local vintage clothing/lifestyle boutique ‘Miss Dixie Belle’
