In 2018, SUMMERHALL is holding a brand-new 10-day series called SOUTHERN EXPOSURE, all taking place in its central courtyard. Events include music from Scottish legends to ambient jazz, a completely revamped take on the annual FestivALE, an outdoor ceilidh and film screenings.
Collaborating with Synergy Concerts, National Museums Scotland & The Edinburgh International Film Festival, as well as their homegrown music programme Nothing Ever Happens Here, this is Summerhall’s most ambitious project yet either side of the Edinburgh Fringe!

Two of Fife’s most influential bands come together this June – The Skids formed in 1977 in their home town of Dunfermline, Scotland by Richard Jobson, Stuart Adamson, Bill Simpson & Tom Kellichan. The late Stuart Adamson then went on to form Big Country in 1981 with Bruce Watson. Part of Southern Exposure.

Mercury Prize-nominated Portico Quartet have always been an impossible band to pin down. Sending out echoes of jazz, electronica, ambient music and minimalism, the group have created their own singular, cinematic sound. Part of Southern Exposure.
The Rezillos ripped into the rock scene through a shared love of Sixties Garage Rock, the Spectoresque Girl Group voice of The Shangri Las injected with their inimitable molten attitude and created their unique left-field brand of punk rock and roll. Part of Southern Exposure.
