The Highlight Arctic multi-arts exhibition at Summerhall mixes film and artists’ work in an integrated exploration of the turbulent relationship between humans and the landscape of the circumpolar North. Three Times to the Moon and Back, a linked series of installations by Russian-Scottish artist Yulia Kovanova, investigates the life of the Arctic tern. Ulrike Ottinger’s epic documentary, Chamisso’s Shadow, reflects on early explorations of the Arctic and on its indigenous inhabitants. And Finnish artist Tomi Knuutila presents his innovative Climatable, an interactive table with separate hotspots representing different data sets, each collected from various online scientific research databases.
