"‘It comes from the idea of people being ‘out of sight out of mind’ and people persisting to be seen and heard. There is still a strong element of defiance in it, it can take a lot to act when self-assurance is lacking. Over time, the exhibition has found a more comfortable place within itself: it stands proud and holds up high whatever is expressed, be it anger or joy, or whatever else.’ "

Out of Sight Out of Mind 2022

This will be the 10th Out of Sight Out of Mind exhibition (OOSOOM). It is an annual multi-media exhibition at Summerhall which shows artworks made by people who have lived experience of mental health issues.

The first OOSOOM in 2013 took place in the old animal hospital at Summerhall, and it is now the biggest exhibition of its kind in Scotland.

The 2022 exhibition will take place over three floors in Summerhall and will show artworks made by well over 100 people, in different medias – film, painting, sculpture, installation and more.

It will also feature a short film and an ‘exhibition within an exhibition’ which will share the journey and the activist roots of this unique project.

The organisers have carried forward the exhibitions ethos of creating a space for people with experience of mental health issues to have their voices heard through the arts. In 2022 OOSOOM still stands proud and holds up high whatever is expressed, be it anger or joy, or whatever else.

Events and opening times to be announced.
