Eagulls
Eagulls
Eagulls self-titled debut album was released on Partisan Records in March 2014. The 10-track, critically acclaimed album was recorded in Leeds between touring and their full-time, dead-end jobs and features singles Possessed, Tough Luck/Opaque and Nerve Endings.
For a band like Eagulls, touring is their lifeblood and during the past 5 years of relentless gigging they have carved out a reputation for chaotic and confrontational live shows. The hard work has paid off. From early support slots with the likes of Iceage, Merchandise and Fucked Up, they have gone on to support Jesus and The Mary Chain, Suede and Manic Street Preachers, as well as tour in their own right.
It’s this frustration and sardonicism that fuels Eagulls and lights a match under their first LP. Though they admit to there being “lighter moments” on the record, on the whole it’s a gloomy, overcast affair. Influenced by post-punk and shoegaze (primarily the sonic assaults of My Bloody Valentine) combined with their own background in hardcore bands, it followed their first trip to America in 2013 for SXSW ( a trip the band sacked in their jobs to take) which was the catalyst for their signing to US indie label Partisan.
