ANATOMY #9 : Monkey Grind
As the chains are pulled taught and the music box whirs, the stained curtain jerks and the lights flick out. Or on wind swept beach with dripping ice cream cones: an abandoned puppet booth, the Professor weeping while Punch frolics over family picnics. In the rafters, as always and forever, the stage-hands churn the monkey that grinds the wheel that makes the tendons dance.
ANATOMY takes the music hall variety show to strange futures. It’s a brave new stage for risk-taking performance and breath-taking theatrics from artists, dancers, music makers and destroyers, puppeteers, film-makers, clowns, poets, mimes, installations, weirdos and burlesques.
“Beyond scratch”, ANATOMY presents a series of exciting, multidisciplinary acts from around Scotland and beyond on vague threads held together by harlequinades, hat-tips and hogwash from hosts Ali Maloney and Harry Giles.
