Budapest Café Orchestra
In their 10th glorious anniversary year The Budapest Café Orchestra embark on their 9th consecutive annual tour of wondrous Scotlandia and since 2011 have already chalked up some 150 concerts across St Andrew’s fair Isle!
The BCO were established by British composer and violinist, Christian Garrick, and led by him they play a blistering barrage of traditional folk and gypsy-flavoured music from across the Balkans and Russia, Klezmer laments, Romanian Doinas, Hungarian Czadas and their own unique reimaginings of some of the biggest pieces ever written by the greats. Evoking vivid images of Tzigane fiddle maestros, Budapest café life and gypsy campfires – plus a few surprises along the way – hugely entertaining, immense skill and profound musicianship, a show by the BCO is good enough to make you want to book that holiday down the Danube! The Budapest Café Orchestra have won legions of fans through their magical and infectious performances.
The group recorded The Gaelic Chronicles, their 6th album, in 2014 to celebrate the particular affinity with their adopted spiritual homeland: the Scottish Highlands and Islands. The BCO tour the remotest and loveliest parts of Scotlandia annually and have collected an enviable array of old Gaelic songs in the course of these visits. The Gaelic Chronicles is a collection of fifteen of these timeless melodies, expanded into complete instrumental and vocal arrangements by Christian Garrick, featuring Highlander Gaelic vocalist, Emma Maclean.
