NEHH and Summerhall are delighted to announce the second edition of “All Work Together”, a songwriters circle featuring three more of Scotland’s finest songwriters performing in a round robin style. Compered by Summerhall’s Music Programme Manager Jamie Sutherland, we will take a deep dive into each songwriters back catalogue and oeuvre, discussing songwriting quirks and tics, as well as inspirations and motivations behind each artists career to date. There will be elements of collaborative work as well as a discussion on this editions theme, “Topical songs”. We hope you’ll join us!

Rachel Sermanni

Rachel Sermanni is a Scottish based singer/songwriter that makes the mundane moments mystical: shock-positive pregnancy tests in train-station toilets, coffee machine breakages, cold river swims, the regret of not saying ‘I love You’, the moon & how it pulls, bare feet on wood floors, the soft glow of a house plant, ‘what even is consciousness?’, strange dreams lingering in quiet mornings…  She brims with dreamy indie-folk pop that speak of the struggle and desire to Flow, to love, to live, to feel. Sometimes, her songs speak of the rare moments of quiet-still, found in the midst of this struggle & desire. Rachel is a Jellyfish. Surrendering to the currents of the big sea.

Solareye

Rapper, poet and hip-hop academic, Solareye fronts critically acclaimed alternative hip-hop group Stanley Odd. Winner of Best Hip-Hop at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2018, his debut solo album–All These People Are Me–was described by author Ian Rankin as “a stunning album, the great contemporary Scottish novel in rap form”. Stanley Odd’s most recent album, ‘STAY ODD’ was shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year 2021.As Dr Dave Hook, his research focuses on hip-hop, rap lyricism, identity, culture and performance, through creative practice.

Rick Redbeard

Rick Redbeard is the folkish solo project of Scottish musician and songwriter Rick Anthony, best known as the lead singer from Glasgow’s celebrated The Phantom Band. He has released 2 acclaimed albums under the Rick Redbeard moniker- 2013’s ‘No Selfish Heart’ and 2016’s ‘Awake Unto’. Anthony’s songwriting melds a strong melodic sensibility with traditional folk themes like love, death, and the passing of time, and lyrics inspired by the natural world and his childhood growing up in the Aberdeenshire countryside.
