Juniore is a boyish girl-band, brain child of Anna Jean and produced by Samy Osta. Hypnotic and dreamy, Anna’s soft voice pulls us in to tell us stories of loveless mornings and sleepless nights, imaginary apocalypses, walks of shame and unhappy endings. Desperately hopeful, Juniore’s tunes are a mix of old school melodies and modern lyrics, fiilled with delight and melancholy. Somewhere between Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns and urban adventures straight out of Nouvelle Vague films, Juniore stretches out time and space, both dark and light, tense and reassuring.

POKEY LAFARGE returned in October with In The Blossom of Their Shade via New West Records. The 10-song set was produced and arranged by Pokey LaFarge and Chris Seefried and recorded in Chicago, IL & Los Angeles, CA. The collection is the follow up to LaFarge’s critically acclaimed 2020 studio LP Rock Bottom Rhapsody which NPR’s Fresh Air named a “Best of 2020” and an “Album that made an art of escapism.”

Born in 1981 and raised in Vermont by folk-musician parents, Sam Amidon sings and plays fiddle, banjo, and guitar. With his self-titled seventh album, Amidon returns to the vast reservoir of folk music with fresh energy and a renewed enthusiasm for texture, facilitated by the creative leap of 2017’s The Following Mountain.

Roddy Woomble is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest songwriters.Known for his enigmatic lyrics, warm baritone voice and consummate gift for a tune, Roddy has released five solo albums to date.For the past two decades Roddy has also been the frontman of much loved Scottish alternative rock band Idlewild, releasing eight studio albums, and touring worldwide as a headline act, but also in support to R.E.M., Pearl Jam and U2 amongst others.

Raymond began playing guitar at the age of eight shortly after having been first exposed to punk and grunge. After years of playing around the Welsh valleys in various punk outfits she began listening more to pre-war blues musicians as well as Appalachian folk players, eventually leading into the guitar players of the American Primitive genre. Her latest record on Tompkins Square is a turn in direction featuring a much more established personal style and adventurous embrace of compositional approach to the tradition.

Kristin Hersh proved herself a truly independent artist with her bands Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave, but her solo career allowed her to express that independence in ways that went beyond her other projects.

Few artists are storytellers as deft and disarmingly observational as Andy Shauf. The Toronto-based, Saskatchewan-raised musician’s songs unfold like short fiction: they’re densely layered with colorful characters and a rich emotional depth.

Sun Ra was one of the greatest and least known jazz artists of the last four decades, whose influence on diverse musicians is little known to the general public. A pianist and band leader, his style ranged from retro swing to avant free, and often in the same piece. His band could play a swinging Gershwin tune and almost imperceptibly soar into their free cosmic equational tones as if they possessed a single mind.

Yorkston Thorne Khan are songwriter James Yorkston (guitar, nyckelharpa, voice), jazz musician Jon Thorne (double bass, voice) and 8th generation sarangi player and vocalist Suhail Yusuf Khan. Meeting by chance backstage in 2015 and playing together ever since, Yorkston Thorne Khan’s musical explorations are well-informed by their rich musical heritage but never reverential, preferring to run with an energy and fun that pushes them to new ground, Rolling Stone calling their Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars album “a game changing masterpiece”.

Jack Lukeman is an Irish singer-songwriter, performer, raconteur and a whole lot more besides. A platinum-selling, critically acclaimed artist in his homeland, in recent years Lukeman has devoted more of his time to winning a growing fanbase in the UK and abroad.

Laura Veirs grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she often spent summers camping with her family, which gave her much of her songwriting inspiration. Veirs didn’t seriously listen to music until she was in her 20s; instead, she just heard what was in her environment. She listened to folk, country, classical and pop music around the house and on the radio during her youth. Veirs is fascinated with the intersection of art and science and she explores that in her work.

A Northumbrian singer/songwriter with a flair for shambolic psych-folk and exploratory rock, Richard Dawson became a fixture in the underground folk scene with his distinctive blend of traditional English folk music.
